Using Flash animation and sound, Brian Kim Stefans tries to re-create the experience not of watching Star Wars (1977), but of typing it. Stefans, a poet and professor at UCLA, uses digital animation to focus the reader’s (or viewer’s) attention on individual letters, offering us the challenge of making sense of language as each of George Lucas’s famous words race by the screen. With each typewriter “ding,” Stefans hearkens back to an analog past even while creating in a digital present.
